josm becomes unusable after cancelling a download

downloaded landsat image, cancelled the download. popup stayed ad "aborting" state.
i could close the popup using window manager control. this sort of returned ui to functional state, but neither any uploads or downloads (including josm & landsat) do anything - download/upload dialogs open, but confirming the action just does nothing.
most likely related to http://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/1610
