This is to avoid the recording of intermediate steps when zooming by mouse scroll for example. The default can be changed in the [wiki:/Help/Preferences/Advanced Advanced Preferences] under zoom.undo.delay. The last 50 zoom areas are stored. This number can be changed with zoom.undo.max.
