Los complementos extienden la funcionalidad básica de JOSM. La [wiki:Plugins lista de complementos JOSM] explica qué complementos están disponibles y con qué tipo de funcionalidad ellos extienden JOSM.

La mayoría de usuarios de JOSM no trabajan con el simple núcleo JOSM solamente. Ellos por lo general instalan en sus sistema de por lo menos 3-5 complementos, incluyendo los importantes complementos wmsplugin y validator.

JOSM checks at startup whether the currently active plugins should be updated. JOSM attempts to update the plugins

In the preferences you can define the policy for updating plugins in version or time based mode.

Select the radio button '''Ask before updating''' if JOSM shall ask before updating plugins in version and/or time based update mode.
Select the radio button '''Always update without asking''' if JOSM shall automatically update plugins without asking. 
Select the radio button '''Never update''' to disable version or time based automatic update. JOSM will skip automatic update at startup if this policy is selected.
