To keep JOSMs interface easy and consistent its vocabulary needs to be easy and consistent too.
Also the [wikitr:/Translations] benefit from a plain terms.

== Canadian-specific vocabulary ==

As you may know, Canadians officially use a blend of British English and American English. A good example of this is taking your car to a “tire centre” to fix a flat.

When in doubt, refer to the [https://archive.org/details/canadianoxforddi0000unse/ Canadian Oxford Dictionary]. If a word is described as being ''especially British'', that probably means that it should not be used.

For quick reference, here are some spellings that we use in the en_CA translation:

- cancel, cancelled, cancelling
- centre
- colour, colouring
- curb (instead of ''kerb'')
- defence, defenceless
- defensible, defensive
- dialogue
- diameter
- generalize
- initialize, initialization
- licence (n.)
- licensing (v.)
- meter (a thing that measures quantity of gas, electricity, distance in a taxi)
- metre (a unit of length)
- neighbour
- organize, organization
- parameter, parameterize
- realize
- refer, referred, referring
- theatre
- tire
