WMS plugin change it's zoom level spontaneously in version 22856 when changing zoom level of the map view.
: I can confirm this. Instead of staying at the initial zoom level the WMS-tiles change their zoom if you zoom the editor view. It also happens for already downloaded tiles (they get worse on zoom out and stay like this when you zoom back in). Happens since a few days.
