I wish there would be a tic-tac-toe (#) lattice of columns (<table border="1"> vs "0" in HTML) so all the columns would line up.

There are only two columns, the icon and the name and the icon has always same size.

Well, there are 3, see the screenshot, even 4 if you enable displaying the id. However it is different for relations and can even be customized by name_template of a preset file. So I think it can be difficult to create a table here.
Regarding the main intention of this ticket.
- If you upload a new node or way with a name, the name is displayed. (fine)
- If you upload a new node without a name, then "Node" is displayed.
- If you upload a new way without a name, then "0" is displayed instead of "Way".

Texts node and way are only used when no more meaningful names exist. That is usually the case for non-POI nodes, so you will see the generic name more often for nodes than for ways.
Anyway it is not clear, what you actually want.
