    9 I tested on Windows XP and I can indeed display both scripts in Notepad, but I have to select Vrinda / Latha fond explicitly. When Latha is selected, it shows ''only'' Tamil and no Roman script.

     11When Latha is selected, it shows ''only'' Tamil and no Roman script. As you cannot have fallback fonts for a JTextField, this makes it practically useless in our case.

     13Arial Unicode MS is a font which seems to have fairly good coverage, but it only comes with MS Word and Outlook 2000. Anyway, it may be an option to switch to this font in case it is available.
