The Mode menu lists all Working modes available to JOSM, shows the active one and allows the user to enter another Working mode.

== Working modes ==#Workingmodes

The effect of a mouse click in the [wikitr:/Help/MapView Map View] is determined by the Working mode. 
''Therefore JOSM is in a specific Working mode at all times.''

Usually a Working mode is entered with a keystroke.
Additionally the buttons visible in the upper half of the [wikitr:/Help/EditToolbar#Workingmodes Edit toolbar] allow entering a Working mode.

Individual mouse pointer icons indicate which Working mode is active.
Further information for the next mouse click is also shown at the right hand side of the [wikitr:/Help/StatusBar Status bar].
