3844	holding shift in Add mode - cannot start a new way from another node	anonymous	team	"Holding shift in Add mode cancels the connection with the previous node and enables you to start a new way. Very useful tool. But only as long as you start this new way from an open space or by snapping into middle of some already existing way. The exception is that you cannot start a new way from some other node. If you go over a node you can verify that the snapping works (it is indicated), it just won't snap to it and start a new way.

BTW: Help on http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Shortcuts should be updated. I can see there:

Shift-Click Holding the ""Shift"" key when in add mode turns off snapping to existing nodes

which is obviously not true - snapping works on nodes IF there is NOT a selected node before. How holding shift in add mode actually behaves I wrote in my first sentence."	defect	closed	minor Core	latest	invalid
