#3152 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Tag filter on layers

Reported by: espen@… Owned by: team
Priority: major Milestone:
Component: Core Version:
Keywords: Cc: openstreetmap.org-user-d1g

Description

It should be possible to apply a tag filter on a data layer. For example it would be nice to have a data layer that only contains objects with landuse=* tag. Then when downloading, updating or uploading only elements that matches the tag filter will be transferred.

Here's how you can do this now:

  1. download data
  2. create a new data layer with Ctrl-N
  3. Ctrl-F or Edit -> Search for landuse=*
  4. Merge the selection with Ctrl-Shift-M or Edit->Merge selection
  5. Select the new layer as target
  6. Activate the new layer (and possibly make the original layer invisible)

Now you can edit the landuse data in the new layer. As soon as you're finished, you can merge back to the original layer (with Ctrl-M which merges the whole layer on any other layer) or you can upload your edits from the new layer.

I therefore think, what you are looking for is already available (since around r1893).

Data layers can be preserved between sessions (save session).
Tag filters can be saved in the session files as well.

Unlike Help/Dialog/Filters:

  • you can rename layers using natural labels (indoor=* + layer=-1 to "-1 level")
  • you can set opacity

PS. Internally, "tag filter" can reuse dialog/filters code.

A warning could be displayed "node moves and deletions may lead to the inaccurate/inconsistent data" if OSM data layer has at least one tag filter

There should be option to "turn off" all tag filters (possibly, download missing data automatically) to show how if data without filters is in "okay" state.

If we make filters to depend on OSM data layers, then we could have groups of Help/Dialog/Filters:

  • indoor objects
  • water objects
  • power objects
  • marine navigation objects
  • admin boundaries (tags)
  • fixme/note/description layer
  • recent changes layer (by anyone)
  • "my recent changes" layer

and so on. Many complex filters would be groped together and would be accessible using short-cuts

PS. and Help/Dialog/Filters are no accessible using shortcuts.

This would be too complex to use and maintain. But for a related tag filter mechanism, see #14929

There is also now Help/Action/OverpassDownload.
E.g. use the wizard with landuse=* to create the query and then use this dialog to download only landuse objects in a bbox.
