#20353 closed enhancement (fixed)

Not quite fitting translation for craft=locksmith in German

Description

The German JOSM has a preset called "Schlosser", which will produce "craft=locksmith".
While the word Schlosser comes from the old "Schloss-Schmied", today its mostly used quite differently, and most "Schlosser" are also "Metallbauer", which is "craft=metal_construction". (See
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlosserei )

What the OSM wiki describes as craft=locksmith seems to be more like a "Schlüsseldienst" ( https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schl%C3%BCsseldienst ) or maybe "Schlüsselmacher". "Schlüsseldienst" is also used for emergency door opening services, though, which might be a little bit different from "craft=locksmith".

tl;dr: I propose to use "Schlüsseldienst" instead of "Schlosser" as translation of craft=locksmith.

I changed the translation of craft=locksmith to "Schlüsseldienst" and of craft=key_cutter to "Schlüsselschneidstelle" (which used the word "Schlüsseldienst" before).

Even if "Schlüsselschneidstelle" sounds a bit strange this is maybe the best way to distinguish these two similar tags based on the descriptions on https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:craft=locksmith. I took the word "Schlüsselschneidstelle" from https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlüsseldienst

"Schlüsselschneidstelle" has 112 hits,
"Schlüsselmacher" has 21,600 hits,
"Schloss- und Schlüsseldienst" has 23,300 hits and
"Schlüsseldienst" alone has 3,950,000 hits in a popular search engine.

Translation is now:
locksmith: Schloss- und Schlüsseldienst
key_cutter: Schlüsselmacher

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlüsseldienst was adapted.

Please, be careful. "Schlüsseldienst" is not really a craft.

We have craft=locksmith, craft=key_cutter, shop=locksmith and office=locksmith. The last is probably the best fit with "Schlüsseldienst" while shop=* is to be used, instead or additionally, if there is a shop. craft=* is the "Handwerk" and I expect a locksmith to fix my old broken lock or even make one to fit into my handmade, wooden furniture.

Just compare craft=locksmith with basket_maker, goldsmith, saddler or shoemaker.

See osmwiki:Key:craft, osmwiki:Tag:craft=locksmith and osmwiki:Tag:shop=locksmith

Turns out that key_cutter: Schlüsselmacher was already translated back in 2016. This issue is a good example for the need of translation maintainers. Whereby maintaining means the work to fit the one translation to all others. Like skyper did in comment:4.
