2. Select Point 1
3. Hit A
4. Click on Point 2 to draw a way to Point 2
5. Hit S (end drawing)
6. Hover the mouse over the third node, click but do not move
7. Hit A

(moving the mouse fixes it)

Draw tool helper line starting at Point 3.

The helper line starts at Point 2 (or wherever you left draw mode)
