Description
There are some proposed icons in http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Map_Icons/Proposed_Icons for
tourism=alpine_hut, tourism=wilderness_hut, amenity=shelter, shelter_type=basic_hut, lean_to, public_transport, picnic_shelter.
Perhaps you can include these in JOSM.

Thanks for your kindly reply.
According to http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:shelter_type shelter_type=weather_shelter and shelter_type=lean_to don't describe the same item. While shelter_type=weather_shelter implements a wide definition, shelter_type=lean_to implements a explicit definition of a sheltertype. I recommend to distinguish this two tags. Otherwise the mapper can't see the difference in JOSM. How shall I work with JOSM when I don't see my tagging?
I also propose to use a different icon for amenity=shelter without shelter_type=*. So the mapper can see, where some information is still missing,
BTW, the current icon for amenity=shelter shows a hut with fireplace. This is a rare situation. Most shelters don't include a fireplace.
So long.
Rudolf

Thanks for the suggestion. I have checked the main tags:
