So far joinig a node to a way does not work with closed ways. It would be nice though !

You mean the thing with hotkey J?
Works for me with areas to areas, ways to areas and areas to ways.
Checked with r3555, r3648, r3650.

Maybe the object whose node you wanted to join was to far away.

Sorry for the noise.

I was irritated that depense on the zoom-level and not on the actual distance.
