put "[ ] Download as new layer" near the other switches again

Reported by: malenki Owned by: team

Description

I don't see the point why this switched has been moved from top to the bottom of the window. Slows down workflow.

I vote for keeping it like that. It's closer to the download button which improves the workflow.

Then you should vote to move [ ] Download OSM-data and [ ] Download GPS-data to the same region, too.

At the moment, at the top you select what you want to download and at the bottom where to.

Come on, sometime things change.

If you can provide a patch that makes it better than the current and the old solution, we consider it. If not, you have to live with it.

That's what I like most OSS: "We change what we change because we want it that way. Don't like it? Your problem. Learn coding and fix it yourself, I/we don't care!"

thank you so very much for your attention

I don't know why you feel so strong about it. It's not that there was a fundamental change in functionality, there was just an option which moved from the top of the page to the bottom. We really don't have enough programmers to bother with such things, there are serious bugs that need to be fixed. So you are right, that's exactly how OSS works: If no developer cares, you have to do it yourself, pay someone to do it or it won't happen.

Do I feel strong about it?
There are just two things I don't get:
When there is no time to bother with such unimportant issues, why then this unimportant issue has been bothered with?
Why the person who submitted the patch with the wish to gain more room for the map went only half the way? Had he moved all the switches to the lower part of the window he had won another 28 px of space (see attachment).
Hint: there are window managers who allow to switch of the menu bars of windows - another ~20 px won. (Even on my netbook with a 1024x600 panel I never had the feeling the map is too small.)

pay someone to do it or it won't happen.

How much do you want?

Replying to malenki:

We like to attract people that help out and contribute to the project so the patch got applied shortly after it was submitted, no big deal.

Why the person who submitted the patch with the wish to gain more room for the map went only half the way? >

I don't know, you have to ask that person.

Your mockup looks nice i'll keep it in mind, but don't expect anything too soon.

I don't do it for money, go find someone else. :)
