Please read ticket #11871 first.
It's what I'm talking about. (At first sight it might be solved, but read here below).
It took me quite a time to find that I can "go" from "Areas around places" to "slippy map" and see that it is adjusted to my place selection. I wish to lessen the gossip that JOSM is complicated.
And, as I specialize in slight mods with great effects, the simplest way to explain why I came here is to say that the displayed messages could be changed as follows:
"Areas around places": Download area [not] OK ... Please go to "Slippy Map" tab to refine it.
"slippy map" ... You may first make a coarse positioning with "Areas around places" tab
Or any better way you could find to much visibly show the user from one tab to the other.
Why #11871 being solved is a maybe is that I just selected Brussels to see what a "not OK" message looks like but that it stayed "OK" (and didn't load, of course).
