#12802 closed enhancement (wontfix)

We should inform all readers that translated pages are outdated

Reported by: openstreetmap.org-user-d1g Owned by: stoecker
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: Trac Version:
Keywords: Cc: openstreetmap.org-user-d1g

Description

Heavily outdated pages (over 30-100 versions skipped) should be indicated with banners "this page is outdated, you can update translations according to instructions ..."

One example would be:
https://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Ru%3AHelp/Dialog/LayerList
https://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Ru%3AHelp/ToggleDialogs - journal is gone long time ago

Any of readers will waste time and have negative experience while learning tools.

PS. I'm not sure if it is possible with tracwiki/Templates or we should write custom javascript code to solve this...

I even would recommend informing all JOSM users at StartUp page that N heavily outdated help pages need to be updated.

Similar to how % of string translations is reported now:
"Помогите перевести JOSM на русский язык! На текущий момент переведено 100% текстовых строк программы." - https://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Ru%3AStartupPage

I would already have done this when positive effects are to be expected. But there aren't. Translations usually are managed by only few individuals. And they mostly knew the update states. Telling the big mass about the outdating status does not change anything.

The manual set outdated messages never attract someone to fix them. More of them wont help.

We can't force anybody to contribute time.

I wish it would be otherwise, but wishful thinking wont change reality. Sorry.

Replying to openstreetmap.org-user-d1g:

P.S. Regarding this - it did not work. After adding that text the numbers of translations did not change.

Okay then about startpage, but list of significantly outdated pages will help these rare translators to translate more efficiently or productive. By translating even just 2-3 pages but popular or deep enough.

Simplest possible tool is to rank "source" pages based their version (more versions = better resource = should be translated), what do you think?

Current translation page status is binary (yes/no) and will reach to small changes (10< versions) too aggressive.

Personally, I would use this tool to update Russian page later on; when English front pages will be more preventative.

I'll think about adding a translation status count macro.

No time for it.

Closest thing I was able to find is wiki dump command - it will let you dump latest version of the page(s) with * substitution. https://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracAdmin

I will try to write simple script that does the job, but this is low in my priority list, also trac api is just horrible compared to mediawiki.
